Sedgefield Country Club Pete Dye Course / Alumni Wedge Range

The 11th hole at the Cardinal Golf and Country Club Guilford is privileged to call the Sedgfield Country Club's Dye Course its home course. Formerly known as the Cardinal, the course is less than 10 minutes from Guilford's campus and was renovated in 2006-07 by new owner John McConnell and Pete Dye, who designed its original layout. It reopened in July 2007 as a 7,002 yard, par-70 course.

Pete Dye's design concepts are recognized as some of golf's finest championship courses. His genius was seen early in his career when the Dye Course opened in 1975 as one of the area's most-challenging layouts, a reputation alive today. The restored course is longer, yet retains the loop's unique and demanding qualities. It covers over 140 acres of scenic property and includes two lakes and winding creeks.

The Sedgefield Country Club Dye Course typically hosts Guilford's Jensen-O'Briant Memorial Tournament each fall. The tourney is named for former Guilford golf coach Jack Jensen and fellow Guilford Athletics Hall of Famer Tom O'Briant and his wife, Bettie. Past participants in the O'Briant Memorial include the PGA Tour's Len Mattiace and Billy Andrade, plus former members Lee Porter '89 and UNC golf coach John Inman. Wake Forest golf coach Jerry Haas and former PGA Tour member John Maginnes are among the tournament's individual winners.

In addition to the O'Briant Memorial, the Sedgefield Country Club Pete Dye Course hosts the nationally recognized Cardinal Amateur in August.

Guilford thanks the course's Director of Golf Operations, Scott Stratton, Golf Course Superintendent Daniel Knight, owner John McConnell and the club's membership for their generous support of the Quakers' golf program.

Alumni Wedge Range Closer to home, the Quakers can practice on the Alumni Wedge Range, which was established in 2012. The range is located a short walk from the dorms and just behind the baseball field and Ragan-Brown Field House on Guilford's campus. There the golf team can practice shots up to 130 yards.
